Our top Social Media predictions for 2018
Brr! It’s definitely starting to feel like winter! We are looking forward to the Christmas holidays, snuggling up in warm blankets watching a cheesy festive film with a cup of cocoa. This year has flown by and with it have come many changes in the social media marketing world, new algorithms, new updates, Twitter’s 280-character limit and on the ongoing battle between Snapchat and Instagram. What will the new year bring? And what should you be looking out for? Here are some of our predictions!
Top trends that we are predicting to see in 2018
The rise of video marketing!
“But video marketing is already a big deal”, you may be saying but video marketing is set to soar more than ever in 2018 – dominating a whopping 80% of web content by 2020! If you are not currently utilising video marketing then you should definitely consider working it into your marketing strategy for the New Year. You can utilise video marketing in the forms of; video testimonials, “about our company” videos, new products, case studies and many more!
The rise of the influencers (yet again)!
Influencers are still dominating the world of social media. All you have to do is scroll the ‘search feed’ on Instagram to see endless promotional posts from celebrities and the ‘Instafamous’. It’s not just Instagram either, YouTube is also a massive influencer marketing platform with massive selections of video demos, unboxings and product reviews. Influencer marketing doesn’t work for every company but if you own a beauty salon, clothes store or jewellers, it’s definitely an area worth exploring in your 2018 marketing plan.
Check out my story!
“Here is me getting into my car, here is my breakfast and this is what I am doing today!” Like it or not social media stories are on the rise and the more relatable the stronger in terms of reach. That disappearing content that millennials can’t get enough of is becoming incredibly popular and is now being used by businesses and people of all ages. This is one that everyone can get involved in, it’s quick, simple and good fun. Give it a try and let us know what you think! We love stories and are incredibly excited to hear that they are here to stay.
Don’t fear the robots aren’t going to take over just yet! AI was set as a prediction for being the next big thing for 2017 and has been slowly creeping in over the year. Some brands are already beginning to utilise bot power with chatbots. Chatbots give bigger companies the opportunity to excel in their customer service by being able to answer multiple enquiries at once. The main problem with chatbots is that they can be easy to spot if you are not asking the programmed questions and can ruffle customers feathers. Work is being done to improve their functionality and there has already been a massive improvement throughout 2017. We are predicting that by the end of next year they will become almost completely unnoticeable! This development is a little creepy but could be an amazing tool for customer service.
The decline of organic reach
Organic reach has been on the decline for a few years now as more social media platforms begin to roll out advertising options. To be clear, what we mean by organic reach is posts on social media that advertise your company, that aren’t paid for!
It will become vital to have a correct balance of paid and organic posts for 2018 to make sure that you are reaching your target audience. It will also be essential that all your organic posts contain high quality, shareable content.
